The dog, a wonderful companion

Why I am writing a statement for the dogs. Because they are worth it.

I have lost my heart to dogs, and to other animals too, but dogs have completely conquered me. Big, small, fat or thin, I love them all.

This is surprising since I have been a cat lover for most of my life.

One strange day or moment I decided I wanted to get to know dogs. As is only right, I went to an animal shelter and offered to walk the dogs.

The first dog was a delicate, blond Kokoni with floppy ears and a tufted tail. It was cold, the dead of winter, and I felt sorry for him because I had the impression that his paws were suffering a lot from the icy path.

As soon as I stopped, he recovered on my boots.

I picked him up to give his paws a little warmth. He turned his head towards me and I got my first kiss from a sweet dog.

I was surprised, confused and enchanted.

From then on, I received many more dog kisses, but I will never forget that first one.

Dogs have a clarity and straightforwardness that never ceases to impress me. When I look into their eyes, I see the innocent purity of their soul.

Even fearful dogs have let me see this purity after initial hesitation.

I think that's the magic that dogs have on me. No matter what they've experienced with people, they regain their innocent purity if you give them time.

Anyone who has roamed through forests and meadows with a dog, who lets him be, lets him share in his joy of life. There is no sight that can open my heart more than when I can watch my dogs as they sweep across the meadows with fervent enjoyment, chasing each other, posing for each other, rising up, pausing, only to soon return to the exuberant game.

I jump with them, I rush through the bushes with them, I feel with them.

My dogs connect me with nature, with the air, with the sun, with the wind.

They are companions of my soul. Only for them do I open my heart. Only to them do I let see the vulnerable, sensitive side of my soul.
